A modern House for our time, they said
Tale
Everyday is a relentless struggle for survival, but Maja holds her own. Despite all the setbacks, she remains in Stormskerry, where her roots are.. The series about this story appeared in 1975 and was a masterpiece. So my expectations for this release were not high.
How wrong I was!
Maybe they will change the whole story? A part in the middle of the movie could have been shortened a bit, but otherwise the movie was perfect. The house here was completely different than it was 49 years ago. She was stronger and happier and had a better sense of humor.
She was even more playful
I don’t know what kind of woman the real Maja was (yes, there was a real Maja and a real Janne!), but I think she must have been very similar to this Maja. The actors who played Maja and Janne were perfect. Some key scenes in this version were very different from the 1975 version, but they were no less moving. One of the most moving episodes in the 1975 version was actually longer and more detailed here, and left a bigger impression on me.
He could not have done it in 1975
Director Tiina Lymi added details that literally surprised but added to the beauty of the film. In one scene I actually wondered what the hell the director was thinking. This scene was one of the most powerful in the entire movie, so Laimie knew what she was doing! The budget probably wouldn’t have allowed it.
All the scenes that were left out of this new version didn’t hurt the story in my opinion
The events that moved me the most in 1977, when I saw the series, were all in this version – different, but still very powerful.
